OnePlus 13 Overview

a. Design and Display

OnePlus seems to be embracing a more minimalist design with the 13th iteration of its number series. The bold, protruding camera module has been swapped out for a sleeker, more understated design. Apart from this change, the new smartphone closely resembles its predecessor.

Furthermore, a significant upgrade this time is the addition of IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings, a step up from the IP65 rating on the OnePlus 12. It's refreshing to see OnePlus finally include this long-awaited feature in its flagship lineup.

Furthermore, the screen design has been updated, featuring a flatter panel with subtly curved edges, unlike the more pronounced curves seen before.

It boasts BOE’s X2 OLED with 8T LTPO technology, offering a QHD resolution and a peak brightness of up to 4500 nits.

However, the display size remains at 6.82 inches diagonally, but the smartphone itself is now slightly shorter and wider than its predecessor.

Additionally, it now includes a more secure ultrasonic fingerprint sensor beneath the screen, replacing the previous optical sensor for enhanced security.

b. Performance

The OnePlus 13 is powered by the, built on TSMC’s 3nm process, featuring new Oryon prime and performance cores for an impressive 45% boost in CPU speed and a 44% increase in efficiency.

Furthermore it is coupled with the Adreno 830 GPU, it delivers up to 40% better performance, making the OnePlus 13 a powerhouse for gaming. To further enhance the gaming experience, the phone comes equipped with the largest gaming vibration motor ever seen in an Android device.

The memory options remain strong, starting with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, but you can go up to a massive 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, although there are no expansion slots for microSD cards.

Finally, the OnePlus 13 runs on ColorOS 15 in China, with the global version expected to feature OxygenOS on top of Android 15.

c. Camera and Other features

The rear camera setup of the OnePlus 13 maintains the familiar combination of a primary, ultrawide, and telephoto lens, optimized by Hasselblad.

All three sensors are 50MP, integrated into a circular module on the left side. The main sensor is Sony’s LYT 808 with OIS, similar to the one used in the OPPO Find X8 Pro, while the 3x periscope lens features the LYT 600 (also with OIS), and the ultrawide uses Samsung’s JN5 sensor.

On the front, the 32MP selfie camera, carried over from the OnePlus 12, offers a 1/2.74” sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.

In a notable shift, the OnePlus 13 opts for a Silicon Carbide battery, allowing the company to pack a larger 6000 mAh cell into a similar body size. Although slightly thicker than its predecessor, the 11% increase in battery capacity makes it a worthwhile tradeoff.

The charging speeds remain unchanged, sticking with 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 10W in reverse wireless mode. While the larger battery means a slightly slower charging rate, it still impresses, reaching 50% in just 13 minutes and a full charge in 36 minutes.
